Children’s Fitness Tax Credit (2009)

Dear Bradford District High School Parent / Guardian:

Starting in 2007, the Government of Canada introduced the Children’s Fitness Tax Credit which allows parents a tax credit to register their child in an eligible physical activity program.  This tax credit will allow you to claim a maximum of $500 per year for eligible fees paid for each child who is under the age of 16 at any time during the year.

The Canadian Department of Finance has indicated that, in order to qualify for the tax credit, a program must be:

a)       ongoing (minimum of eight weeks)

b)       supervised

c)       suitable for children

d)       include a substantial amount of physical activity

It is the organization’s responsibility to determine the portion of the fee that qualifies for the tax credit, as some parts of the fees paid are not considered eligible (i.e. transportation and uniforms).

Our expectation is that parents wishing to claim this credit would pick up this package at the school’s main office / website. Parents should list the activities and then return it to the main office where eligible fees will be filled in and the form will be signed. A separate form should be completed for each child.  At that point, the form is deemed to be official and can be submitted as part of your 2009 income tax.

If you have any further questions please feel free to contact Mr. Dave Stephens at 905-775-2262 ext. 345.

Thank you for your continued support of co-curricular activities at Bradford District High School.

Sincerely,

Dana Barakauskas, Principal
