bPod at B.D.H.S. 

bPod is a unique program and learning community based on appreciative inquiry, inquiry based learning, individual time lines, democratic decision making and student created assessment. Students use the Ontario Ministry of Education Interdisciplinary Curriculum to design their own course of study based on their unique learning needs. Students can earn a credit in grade twelve Interdiciplinary Studies at the "university" or "open" level by working towards achieving a credit in either IDC4U or IDC4O. 

The teacher of bPod acts as a facilitator to help students design their course and assessments based on their interests and preferred learning style.  bPod is a self-directed learning environment, where students have the autonomy to direct their own learning by creating their own course and assessments.  Students in the bPod program have created individual courses on the following subjects:

  • The Sociology of Crime

  • Criminology

  • Earth Science

  • Fashion Design

  • Child Psychology

  • Educational Pychology

  • Sports Psychology

  • Sports Management

  • The Human Heart

  • Contemporary Issues in Medicine

  • Contemporary Issues in the Music Industry

  • Film and Media Studies

  • Real Estate Management

  • Special Education

  • Philosophy

  • The Sociology of Beauty and Culture

  • Cultural Anthropology

  • The History of Warfare

The list of topics and disciplines for students to study is endless, as whatever they can dream of, the have the ability to study in bPod. To be enrolled in the bPod program, students will need to complete an application form and submit it to Mrs. Mansfield-Oehm.  Application forms can be found as an attachement at the bottom of this web page.  Successful applicants will then be interviewed to assess their suitability to the program.
